Goshuin (御朱印)
Fee: 300-400 yen depends on the temple/shrine

Shuin is a seal stamp given to worshipers and visitors to Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan. The seal stamps are often collected in books called shuincho.

One of the more interesting souvenir collection I got during my summer trip to Japan. Prolly originates from ancient times when Buddhist monks visit temples to copy the sutra, shuin was given to them as a symbol of authenticity. Nowadays shuin has become s symbol of visit/worship for temple/shrines. After praying, you go to the shuin issue place and pay a small amount of money, the skilled staff there will write the shuin for you. Since its all handwritten and the style varies from person, its kind of a unique souvenir. Recent years apparently collecting shuin is v popular among young girls hmm...
