Kyoto Travel: Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion)
----------------------------------------------------------
Kinkakuji 金閣寺 (Kyoto)
Entrance Fee: 400yen (1st time ok, subsequent time not worth)
----------------------------------------------------------
One of the most famous Buddhist temple in Kyoto, basically was bought by this Shogun in the 12th century who decided it was a fking good idea to coat it with gold, aft he died his son convert it to a temple. Tho in 1955 some suicidal monk burnt the actual temple to a crisp together with all the artifacts inside. The one we see today is mostly a replica (the owner coat it with even more gold to attract tourists lmao).
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tho its one of the most famous attraction in Kyoto, its quite underwhelming imo. Because its full of fking Chinese tourists for some fking reason (maybe cos its Gold) totally ruin the experience. If the Chinese tourist at Kiyomizu is 20% then this place is 60%. On top of that, the location of the temple is rly hard to access, the compound is Kinda small, you can only look at the temple from far and take pics (tho the pic is rly nice) what u see on google image is literally what you see there nothing else, you follow a fixed path walk around the compound for like 20 and its done (not to mention the whole path is packed with tourists). The complex is really beautiful tho most of it are out of bound for visitors. Tho you can take rly nice pics and if its your 1st time in Kyoto you shld visit here but other times dun bother just go Kiyomizu or stn. Apparently the soft serve icecream near the temple is famous but I taste no difference and it costs 50 yen more than other areas. One of the only place in Kyoto where I strongly feel expectation >> reality
